Posted by Samantha Soffici on Tue, Sep 17, 2019

India has the second largest population on the planet, and its people are joining the online world by the millions- 98 million to be precise in 2019 alone. Not only are they becoming internet users, they are also participating in ecommerce! For U.S. exporters, India is an up-and-coming export market with ample opportunity for growth. If you get the online presence right, the market can be very fruitful.

Use online tools to your advantage to be found, understood, and transact your business in India!

The infographic below will help you grasp and understand the potential of India's online environment, social media, and ecommerce.

Our infographic shows you:
  1. The online environment
  2. Social media
  3. Ecommerce - What do they buy and how?

Two additional trends to keep in mind:

  1. More and more websites in India are being created in languages other than English. Amazon launched a Hindi version of their ecommerce platform (425 million speak it as a first language and 120 million as a second language) with plans to also launch in Bengali, Tamil, Kannada, and Telugu. To be successful in India, it is important to keep in mind this shift. People will soon expect websites to be in languages other than English.
  2. India is seen as the last huge market to carve out market share by the global tech giants: Indian ecommerce leader Flipkart was bought by Walmart for $16 billion in 2018; making it the largest ecommerce acquisition ever. Chinese tech companies invested over $5 billion in India's tech sector in 2018 alone.
I hope you enjoy, and happy exporting!
