17 Robots from around the world compete in Darpa Robotic Challenge

#USA #Florida - 17 #Robots from around the world compete in #Darpa #Robotic Challenge (DRC) this Friday and Saturday. The DCR challenge is to spur on#technology to help in disaster zones. 

The Trials will provide a baseline on the current state of #robotics and determine which teams will continue on to the #DRC Finals in 2014 with continued #DARPA funding. Competing in the 2014 Finals will lead to one team winning a $2 million prize.

The DRC trials consist of eight demanding tasks:

- Drive a utility vehicle along a pylon-lined course
- Cross a terrain that features ramps, steps and unfastened blocks
- Climb an 8ft-high (2.4m) ladder
- Remove debris blocking a doorway
- Pull open a lever-handled door
- Cut a triangular shape in a wall using a cordless drill
- Close three air valves, each controlled by a different-sized wheel or lever
- Unreel a hose and then screw its nozzle into a wall connector
