One of the primary national locations for data centers is in Moselle, region of over one million inhabitants and a major crossroad located in the East of France, bordering Germany and Luxembourg. Moselle possesses a nuclear plant and has recently invested in the renewable energy sector, thanks to support from French Public Authorities who consider it a project of national interest. Construction included 160 wind turbines, ALPHEA, a European hydrogen competence center and fuel cell. It also reduces environmental impact by recycling the heat produced by data centers to heat the nearby hospital.
The Great East DataCenter Park located at 20km from Luxembourg City, is 4Ha with a first data center tier III, including several 500m² modules of computer rooms. The park is served by Moselle’s dense electrical networks, which guarantee continuity and security of energy supply. The Moselle broadband network also offers 1 150km of very high-rate optical fibers, servicing 115 France Telecom subscriber nodes, 60 TV broadcast nodes, 58 business parks, one broadband directly connected to the Luxembourg and German networks, and 144 completely secure fibers with a capacity of 100Gb each.
The Moselle Development team commits itself to mobilize its partners and optimize the lead time of your setting up, all its services being free of charge and fully confidential. The team will be present at DataCenter Dynamics Trade Show in London, Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st November 2013 and would welcome you to visit their Stand No. 69.
Nowadays, 25% of the world growth comes from the digital economy. But even virtual services need real physical infrastructure in the form of a data center. The market for virtual services is currently growing by over 16%, set to reach $35bn in the next year. This growth is driven by a strong demand for outsourcing data center services and will necessitate new facilities construction, and extension and upgrade of current facilities. The data center market is booming in numerous countries in South East Asia, China, Russia, USA, Brazil, UK, Germany, and the country of today’s focus – France.
Trade associations in telecommunications and electrical equipment engineering met in 2009 to form “France for data centers” to show that France is an ideal host country. The result: 100 data centers in France to date, digital economy accounting for 4-5% of GDP, 25% of growth, 3% of jobs and 16% of investments.
France fulfils and exceeds all requirements for hosting data centers, including strategic location at the crossroads of Europe, great source of reliable, low carbon and low cost electricity guaranteed by market regulations, high quality of transport infrastructure, extremely skilled personnel including engineers and technicians, data protection based on the “Confidence in the Digital Economy Act”, and suppliers able to quickly provide spare parts and instant support on-site or near data centers.
