EU Horizon 2020 Research Inovatioin Programme resized 600The European Union is bringing research and innovation to the forefront with the dawn of Horizon 2020, an €80bn programme created to place new emphasis on the EU’s knowledge-based sectors.

The project will require cooperation from around the world, bringing researchers together to confront the challenges which affect us all. Horizon 2020 is therefore expected to contribute to growth, jobs and quality of life worldwide.

European Research, Innovation and Science Commissioner Máire Geoghegan-Quinn is encouraging SMEs to get involved in the project, and has prioritised funding to ensure that Horizon 2020 gets the attention it deserves. This funding will go primarily towards supporting:

  • science
  • industrial leadership
  • societal challenges such as transport, security and climate change

This could be a fantastic opportunity for SMEs worldwide. For more information on the programme, take a look at the Europa website: http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_MEMO-13-1085_en.htm.
